A well-designed restaurant menu is important for drawing in customers and communicating all information your customers need to know—including menu items, descriptions and prices. Creating a menu from scratch can be difficult, but Microsoft Word provides a variety of templates you can start with. Once you have gathered all the pertinent information for the menu, select a template of your choosing to customize it for your restaurant.
Open Microsoft Word.
Click the "Microsoft Office Button," and select "New."
Click "More Categories" in the list of template links under "Microsoft Office Online." Click "Menus." This will load the available Microsoft Office Online menu templates.
Browse through the selection of templates and find one that best suits your needs. Select one and click "Download." The template will open in a new Word document.
Determine if you want just one single-sided page for the menu, or a folded booklet. To create a booklet, change the page margins of the document. Click the "Page Layout" tab, and click "Margins" under "Page Setup." Click "Custom Margins." Under "Pages" click the "Multiple Pages" menu. Select "Book Fold." Click "OK." The book fold will create large margins and a center fold.
Edit the menu content for the first (or only) page. Select the placeholder text and replace it with your content. Click the "Home" tab to make formatting changes, such as font, font size, text attributes, color and alignment.
Add your own pictures and graphics if you want. Click the "Insert" tab and select "Picture" under "Illustrations." This will let you select an image file from your computer to upload. Click "Clip Art" to upload a Word stock image.
Add a second page to the menu by clicking the bottom of the page. Click the "Insert" tab. Under "Pages," click "Blank Page." Add the content to the second page. Continue adding pages until you've completed the booklet.
Click the "Microsoft Office Button," and "Print."
Connnect your printer to the computer and feed it with paper. Select your installed printer in the "Print" dialog box.
Select "Manual Duplex" to print on both sides. You'll be prompted to turn the paper over to print on the opposite side. Click "Print."
Tips
Use a high quality paper, one that is heavier than the standard 20 pound typing and copy paper. Even a 24 pound paper gives your menu a little more professional feel. Use a colored paper, however, if you have photographs of food items, stick with white paper. Pick a white paper that has a high brightness level, such as 98.
Warnings
To create a booklet, make the first two pages of the document one side of the menu, and the next two pages the opposite side.
